Received an invitation to attend the Network Security Forum in my email today. Just wondering whether any of you guys planning to attend it this Saturday.

My car accident

Last Saturday I experience my first car accident. After gym, I decided to send my car for a car wash at Sengkurong. On the way back from car wash, I was planning to stop by the car accessories shop nearby Metro Jaya, Jalan Jerudong.

I signal to the right and stopped in the middle of the road waiting for the traffic at the right lane to clear. Few seconds later I heard loud screeching sound and suddenly I felt my car was hit from behind. I went out my car and discover a Red Toyota Kijang just hit me.

The car that hit me
The driver of the car is an Indonesian man. He admitted he make a mistake and apologise to me and he told me that he will pay for everything. Cut story short.... my car now in the workshop. He paid B$500 in advance to the workshop. His boss came to have a look at my car. I believe the boss will pay for him first and deduct it from his salary.

Went to QQestore before Friday prayer to pick up my order. While I was checking my order, AnakBrunei came in.... also want to pick up his order. Hmmm... Big boys does like to buy new toys. Call up the store boss that I'm around. AnakBrunei got to introduce himself to Nicky and told him that he would like to do an interview for an article on CNET Asia.

Another satisfied customer!

Cut story short... three of us went downstair for "Teh Tarik" and continue our chat.

My QQestore experiences

8 May 2007
[3:40pm] Register myself with QQestore through their website. Received SMS with the password. Start shopping for my new toy.
[3:44pm] QQestore sent out a SMS saying that they received the order with the order number and you can check it online the order status.
[4:24pm] Received SMS saying that my order status has been updated to "WAITING STOCK ARRIVAL"

11 May 2007
[12:21am] Received SMS from QQestore saying that my order status has been updated to "READY FOR COLLECTION"

Peugeot 207cc

A colleague of mine ask me this afternoon whether I've seen the Peugeot 207cc car. I told him "yes, I actually saw it in a car magazine around 3 weeks back". So why he ask me this question. It's because I actually own a used Peugeot 206 cc which I bought earlier this year.

Both of us agree the 207cc looks more sportier than the 206cc. I have to admit the 206cc does look like a girlie car. However, I still love it. It's really fun to drive!

One of the new interesting feature of the 207cc is the folding roof. It has improved, there is no more manual release handles, the operation is fully automatic.

Now I'm wondering when Simpur will choose the top 10 finalists for the "Show us what you drive!" competition. I'm hoping my car will be shortlisted. Anyway, the two mini cooper entries does look very nice. I should have taken photo of my car with a nice background.

Wednesday evening decided to join a group of friends for a 2 hours badminton game at Scouts building. This is only my second time playing this year. My smashing weren't as strong as before so rely much on stroke and long play. Maybe I should start playing at least once a week.

Here's my run statistics for last month. Most of my runs at JPMC gym treadmills and few at Sheraton Saigon treadmill. Figures excludes the 5 minutes cool down period at the end of each run.

2 May 1957, 7:45pm correspond to 1st Syawal, Radio Brunei began its initial broadcast with the female voice announcing "Inilah Radio Brunei" (This is Radio Brunei). The female presenter name is Dayangku Intan (Pengiran Hajah Intan binti PDP Pengiran Haji Apong).

This morning I attended an Golden Jubilee (50 years) Radio Brunei Celebration
Opening Ceremony at Radio Televisyen Brunei. Guest of Honor was the Crown Prince.

I was thinking of bringing my digital camera but then I thought I just leave it as my camera is not really that small. Sometime I just wish I got those small camera which can slip in my pocket. All guest attended this morning was given a goodie bag. Inside the bag there's a book and a couple of sourvenoir. The book is very interesting. I actually like the book. There's lots of old photos.

The book

One of the section in the book show photos of Radio Brunei visitors also comprised popular actors and actresses from overseas from the golden years to the 80s and 90s.

Photo below showing

Polar S625X

He requested me to post regarding this. So here it is.

If you looking for a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) for outdoor and exercise activities then I fully recommend the Polar HRM monitors. It's basically a watch with a heart strap sensor. However Polar also have models for running, cycling or both.

The watch that I have is Polar S625X. This watch can be use to capture both running and cycling data. The sensor for the bicycle is optional (have to purchase separately). What's included in the box is the watch, heart strap, Polar S1 foot pod and the software for Windows. The foot pod is attached to the running shoe. It has one button activation and is water resistant up to 2 meters.

Polar S625X

The Polar watch and the foot pod basically work like the
Nike+iPod but with much much more features (e.g. measuring altitude, temperature, etc). Just look at my Jerudong Park Run graphs I posted last year. From my observation, the Polar watch and foot pod sensor measurement is much more accurate compare to the Nike+iPod. I notice that the Nike+iPod sensor is very slow to detect if I suddenly slow down my running pace.

You can see the running and cycling data from the watch. If you want to display it as graph then you need to transfer it to your computer using infrared. So make sure your computer have infrared port otherwise you need to buy the USB infrared adaptor.

Where to buy?

The only place I've seen selling Polar watch in Brunei is at Fitness Zone, The Mall. Mine is more than one year already. It costs B$580 during that time. Actually I got mine as one of my birthday present from the missus. The optional bicycling sensor is around B$90 each. I bought two sensors (speed and cadence sensor). The speed sensor attach to the front wheel to measure the cycling speed and distance. The cadence sensor attach to the crank to measure the crank turn speed, measured in revolutions per minute (rpm).

A heart rate monitor is a tool that will help pace you. If you exercise too hard, you will most likely quit before you get the real benefit. We have all seen the person who gets on the treadmill, cranks it up to 8% grade and 8 mph, runs full out for 2 minutes, and gets off. ALL THEY DID WAS WASTE TWO MINUTES OF THEIR TIME!

On the other hand, there are people who exercise very leisurely and wonder why they can't lose any weight. If you workout too slowly, you won't get the exercise benefit either.

That's where the HRM comes in. It paces you during your workout. It's like having a personal trainer that tells you to slow down or speed up. Read more
