An overdue post.

On our trip to India 6th April and back to Brunei 12th April we had a 6 hours transit. We were given rooms at the Pan Pacific KLIA hotel to check-in and rest. Pan Pacific KLIA hotel is just 1 minute drive from the Airport.

Checkout the photos I took below.

India mari

I'll be flying off to India this Sunday. Will go to New Delhi and Bangalore. This will be an interesting trip for me. I hope I can update my blog with some photos from there :) .

Got my ticket today.

Knowledge is Power

Found this photo from the training CD sent to me. It was taken during my trip to Vietnam in April this year. It's a yearly conference and I hope I can go again next year.

Happy to be back...

I'm happy to be back home with the family. I've taken a day off from work today.

Overall, the trip was good. Learnt new things and history of Vietnam from the city tour. There's a couple of halal restaurants around the hotel I stayed. If you plan to come to Vietnam, just bring US Dollar you don't actually need to change it to Vietnamese Dong. Everyone accepts US Dollar there. Can't exchange from Brunei Dollar, only found one money changer that accepts Brunei Dollar but the exchange rate was very low.

Here's the last shot we took before we go to airport.

Last photo taken in Vietnam

Today is my last day in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. My flight back later is 4:30pm (5:30pm Brunei Time). As I'm leaving Vietnam, I would like to share a couple of videos I took at the hotel lobby.

Last night, I was invited by the Malaysian participants for a dinner at one of the "halal" restaurant here. The restaurant name is Restoran Empat Musim (Four Seasons Restaurant). It's around 200 metres walking distances from the hotel where I'm staying.
Four Seasons Restaurant
The restaurant serves Malay foods. The waiters and waitresses can speak malay. I was pleasantly suprise to see "Roti Kosong/Telur" and "Teh Tarik" also in the menu. The price for the foods and drinks is similar or cheaper to what we pay in Brunei. The foods is excellent, I especially like the Fried Chicken and Beef menu we order.

Fish (don't remember what's the menu name)
Brinjal with Sambal Malaysia
I ordered Watermelon Juice and tryout Vietnam Coffee after the meal.

I really enjoy the foods and thanks again for treating me for the dinner.

Me and my colleagues took a half day city tour yesterday. Price for 3 persons is 25 US Dollar each. This includes a private air-conditioned vehicle, english speaking tour guide, all admission fees and reasonable supply of drinking water. We visited the following places.

1. The Reunification Palace : Here on April 30th 1975 the "American War" officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.

2. War Remnants Museum : Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this is a poignant display of the futility of war.

3. Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office : Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture.

4. Ben Thanh Market : This bustling market is very popular with tourists, primarily due to it's central location. It has a wide selection of goods ranging from fake Nike shoes to beatiful silk Ao Dais.

Apart from these places, we also visited the local market, the local handicraft place, Goddess of Ocean Temple in China town and lunch at Pho 2000 (made famous when President Clinton ate there).

I fully recommend those who come here to take the city tour and get to know more about the history of Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh City

Greetings from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Landed here around 8:45pm local time, that's 9:45pm Brunei time. This is my first trip to Vietnam. Will be here till Sunday. Hope to take more pictures of Ho Chi Minh City this whole week and post it here.

From the airport to Sheraton Saigon Hotel is around 20 minutes drive. There's lots of motorcycles and scooters on the road. None of the rider or passenger wear helmets.

Here's some photos I took at the hotel. Big and very nice hotel.

More information on the hotel here. I also manage to capture this video before boarding the plane.

Additional info :
  1. Flight time from Brunei is approximately 1 hour 35 minutes.
  2. Vietnam is one hour behind Brunei time.
  3. Power plug is the same as in Brunei.
  4. Vietnam currency is Vietnamese Dong (VND). If you travelling here, bring US Dollar (USD) or Singapore Dollar (SGD) . 1 USD around 15,000 to 16,000 VND. 1 SGD around 10,000 VND.
  5. Mobile phone roaming not an issue for DST customers. However, there's "No Service" for B.Mobile. Either Vietname haven't implement 3G network or B.Mobile doesn't have any roaming agreement with the mobile operators here.
